As the video explains, a massive, potentially record-breaking guerrilla grow operation was recently busted in East Texas. Apparently, a curious and law-abiding deer hunter stumbled across one of the patches, and made a b-line to the police to call it in.
This appears to have been a very professional, obviously large-scale operation that was scattered among several plots cleared out within a heavily wooded region. In addition, there was a network of irrigation lines that stemmed from a nearby creek. The crude campsites associated with the plots were likely for the growers’ laborers.
The sheer size of this grow is remarkable. There were so many plants identified on foot and by helicopter that they enlisted the help of some of the prison population in Polk County to come help throw out the weed. By the way, did someone make sure they washed their hands after they finished?
According to estimates, it is likely that approximately 100,000 marijuana plants will be seized and destroyed at the end of the “clean up.”
My first reaction is damn, there are some people hating on this deer hunter! Next, I am struck by the sheer senselessness of the destruction.
Rather than trash all of this weed, why not simply man the area with police and a few “consultants” and harvest it? This Cannabis, regardless whether it was planted illegally, can still be used medicinally. In fact, Texas is slated to adopt medicinal marijuana legislation in 2015. The marijuana from this operation could be cured and stored easily for a year until the law is enacted, no problem! Moreover, when that day comes, the state of Texas could count on reaping a windfall of profit, courtesy of some very bummed guerrilla growers.
OK, perhaps this all sounds too idealistic, but trashing 100,000 perfectly good plants?? Maybe it’s just the pro-Cannabis side to me that recoils at the thought – but you simply cannot deny that there was a hell of a lot of potential revenue that could have been used for the public’s benefit.
Let this be a lesson to all would-be stealth outdoor growers: don’t do it, especially in areas where deer hunting is permitted!
